According
to Bhargava & Trivedi, 2018 pressure in studies is one of the causes of
stress among teenagers. Some teens may worry if they don’t perform well in
their studies. Some of teen worry being judged by their peers, scolded by their
parents or rejected by universities when they can’t achieve an excellent result
in their exam. This situation will lead teens to push themselves so that they
can be a perfect person for everyone. For example, some of teenager study until
late night and did not get enough sleep. As we know there are many effects if
we did not get enough sleep. Someone that does not get enough sleep will affect
their physical health and mental health (An Integrated Approach to Mental
Health and Physical Health of Teenagers, 2020). For example, they will feel
tired and they may easy to get sick when they did not get enough rest for their
body. We must sleep at least for 6 to 7 hours a day. From this we can see that
pressure in studies not only affects the mental health of teenagers but
physical health is also affected.
According
to Family Stress: An Evidence Based Guide, 2022 family pressure is also the
cause of stress problems among teenagers. Most of the causes of teenage stress
are due to relationship problems between their parents. For example, parents
who fight every day definitely have an impact on the emotional health of
teenagers. Nowadays, some of the parents is too busy with their career until
they forget about their responsibility. This is because they think that by
having many moneys can give happiness to the children. But they never know that
teenagers will feel neglected due to the behaviour of parents who never care
about their feelings and rarely having a quality time with their children. Because
of this, many cases of teenagers run away from home due to family problems
experienced by them. Not only that, the effect is that teenagers will be
involved in social problems such as drug addiction and illegal racing. From
this we can see that family pressure give big impact to the children.
According
to Scott, 2022 the problem of bullying at school is also a cause of stress
among teenagers. Before we get into this topic, the American Psychological
Association defines bullying as a form of aggressive behaviour in which someone
intentionally and repeatedly causes another person injury or discomfort. It is
difficult to identify who is a victim of bullying. Teenagers who are victims of
bullying often hide their feelings. This is because they are afraid of threats
from people who bully them. The example of bullying at school is the victim of
bullying have to provide a certain amount of money to the bully gang leader
every day. This problem will make the students feel afraid go to school because
they are worry if they can’t provide the money, they will be harmed. When they
are afraid telling other people about their problems, it will become burden for
them and they will feel depressed.
In conclusion, stress will
cause a person to be unable to carry out daily activities and this will reduce
their productivity. Therefore, the method of recognizing one's potential and
thinking positively is the best way to reduce the level of stress among students.
We must remember that today's youth are the pillars of our generation and the
future leaders of our country. Therefore, various effective measures need to be
taken to solve this problem.
